HISTORY OF OROPESA DEL MAR
During the centuries the town of Oropesa del Mar was as a settlement for many folks. The first remains date way back from the Stone age. Iberian culture was found in Oropesa la Vella, and Roman literature describes strong contingents of Iberians at this coast. About 500 years ago Oropesa del Mar belonged to the order of the Hospitalarios, the castle of Oropesa Del Mar was later taken by James The First in 1233. The village of Oropesa Del Mar came under protection of other lords in the following years. Becouse of many attacks by pirates, the most famous of which was Read Beard, Pedro The First the Antequera thought it would be a wise idea to build a defensive tower on the coast of Oropesa Del Mar. The northern side of the cape of Oropesa Del Mar has some fine sandy beaches like Les Amplaries and Morro de Gos, these beaches are perfect for sunbathing and all kinds of watersports, to the south there is a bay known as Bahía de la Concha, this beautifull bay ends at the seafront.
